Utrecht Centraal is the heart of the Netherlands if you travel by public transport. From here you can get through the whole country within a relatively short time. :)Upvoted Feb 22

It's a nice , big station with many options to eat and shop and it is next to the mall which is v eh practical for people shopping outside of Utrecht .
A nice train station with a lot of food shops and stores. E.g. HEMA is perfect for getting a snack or a small present.
The best Hot Chocolate is the "Signature Hot chocolate" at Starbucks. Still want a nice but cheaper one go to the Broodzaak. Worst hot chocolate is at the Kiosk.
My way of surviving this train station and adjacent mall is to drop in on track 14/15 from AMS and then go straight for the bike rental to get a OV-fiets and by-pass the Hoog Cathereijne clusterfuck.

Need something while waiting for your train? There's an entire shopping mall connected to the station. Supermarket, electronics, clothes, etc.
Go check out Bar Beton or Bistrot Centraal for nice drinks and excellent views!

Stay near the entrance of the stations - they can change, so you end up going from one to another 5 minutes until departure.
Walk through the tunnels instead of the main hall, much much less busy. And one was actually a (possible) war shelter during the cold war, giving room to 2000 people for a few days.
Time left or facing a giant hunger? Order fries or another snack at Smullers and ask for Tariq: he's rapid, gentle and always in for a talk!

Busiest station in the country! Recent renovations aren't quite as inspiring as those in Rotterdam or Amsterdam, though.
Huge railway station with tons of shops nearby. Frequent disruptions to train service and the past years reconstruction in the station has been taking place.
The new station is looking great. Do not forget the shops on the outside of the station like Sissy Boy.

Full with places to get a snack, very big but you can always find your way there.

You can check in at 8:55 AM and still have the 40% discount. Useful, for example, for the 8:58 AM intercity to schiphol airport.

Wanna look like a real American hipster? Grab a tripple machiatto latte choco at Starbucks. If you're looking for good coffee, grab a € 1 one at the AH Togo.
Book exchange corner at café "de Tijd", in the corner next to the flower shop. Just behind the entrance!
