Shock horror! Our precious claim to fame “Britain’s busiest railway” isn’t actually part of Clapham. It's in Battersea, in 1863 the station was named after the more popular village.Fact! v/LoveClapham
Taking a taxi, horse riding, cycling, walking, pub crawling or not going there at all. All strongly recommended viable alternatives. If you MUST take the train... Then don't come to me complaining! :)
🟩Southern, 🟦South Western Railway and 🟧London Overground trains stop here. The 🟥Gatwick Express does not stop here and can only be boarded at Victoria and Gatwick Stations.
No need to change platform if you are taking the Overground connection. Both trains north and south are on platform 1. This avoids what I did, going up the stairs and getting lost. :)
On the bridge there is a list of what each station can be reached by trains from that platform. Very useful to find which of the 17 platforms to go from
Well done on checking in here. On some platforms, 3G almost inaccessible on any network here at peak times when there are too many people accessing the Internet!
No London Underground connections here. Nearest station being Clapham North on ⬛Northern Line, which is a shorttrain journey on 🟧Overground to Clapham High Street, then a 3 minute walk.
The best coffee and service is from the shop in the subway right next to platform 10. If you go there only a few times the bloke serving remembers you!
If your at platform 5/6 be at the second coach so that you will get to the stairs at putney faster eapecially during peak hours where a huge numer of people are there :)
If you planning to use the Overground to S'Bush, Olympia, etc then try the Southern service from plat 16/17. Sometimes they fill the gaps between Overground trains.
The first station opened here in 1863. Now about 2,000 trains pass through each day, making it the busiest station in Europe (but Shinjuku, Tokyo is now the busiest in the world).
CJ is an interchange to literally everywhere in the UK. If you aren’t a commuter, avoid this station between 7.30 and 9am and from 5 to 6.30pm - the crowds are overwhelming.
