Absolutely stunning station with 11 levels of shopping, eateries, and interesting artwork. We ate our way through after arriving in Kyoto and spent a long time admiring the light stairs at night

The hub with the rest of Japan, from here you can do day trips to Himenji, Nara, Osaka and Hiroshima. Be sure to buy a JR pass before entering Japan.

A lot of things you can do in Kyoto Station. Can go to the top to see the view of a part of the city. Some famous matcha dessert shops have branch here so you don't need to go far to try!

Rows of ramen shops and restaurants on the 10th & 11th floors respectively. Use the Skyway on the 10th floor to cross to the other side of the station. Magnificent views especially at night.

Looking for a good view, then head up to either side of the station and walk along the Skyway - a free passage that hangs just below the roof and gives views of the railway station and of Kyoto.

Beautiful station, incredible building. I suggest going to the top floor, where there is a garden and a breathtaking view of the city, and of the architecture of the station too.

Take time to look at the architecture of the station building. Grab a New Orleans style beignet at Cafe Du Monde, explore the underground shopping mall... one can spend hours just wandering around

An enormous labyrinth with crowded corridors, poorly marked signs, and confusing maps. It’s easy to get lost, so be sure to look for the info desk staff and they can guide you.

Really lovely station with regional, express and Shinkansen service. The area around it seemed like the shadiest part of Osaka (at night) & it wasn't shady at all, really, so there you have it.

A work of architectural genius or a hideous monstrosity that ruins Kyoto's skyline? JR Kyoto station is the main terminus for the bullet train and the JR Kyoto Line from Osaka. English widely spoken.

Bus pass may not be needed. We bought 8, never used them and paid ¥200 per pass to get a refund. Taxis are cheap and convenient for 2 or larger parties. Use underground bag storage service, cheaper
