- SAugust 19, 2017This place is magic. Go early to avoid the crowds (before 0800) and you'll be rewarded with great pictures and a much more spiritual experience. Hike all the way to the top! Great views of the city.

- JernejNovember 5, 2017Beautiful place but make sure you go here very early. If you get there around 5:00 you will have some time to enjoy. Around 7:00-8:00 hordes of tourists arrive and you experience will be ruined.

- Tarik HartMay 6, 2015The temple is at the base of the hill is bright and bold, but the real highlight is the walk up the mountain through the gates. Save energy for it, as it's about two hours. Great view of Kyoto.

- Ceilidh SimpsonAugust 24, 2014I'd say the mountain loop is definitely worth it to get the full foresty, old shrine feel. Early mornings and mosquito spray will make it an even better experience. Spot terrapins in the lake too :-)

- Lionel LimMay 31, 2019Behind the shrine, there is a hike that goes up the hill. This is where you will find the trail lined with torii gates. As you go deeper into the forest, the crowd becomes more sparse. Go at night!
- Olivia FungDecember 3, 2015Look out for the pink tags on the trees, they lead you where you can get a non crowded picture of copious bamboo trees everywhere! Saves time going to the other bamboo place if you are time short.

- David HeiserNovember 8, 2018If you don’t get there crazy early, the first 20 mins of the path will be stupid packed. Even still, do the full lap. It’s about an hour and a half and it’s much less crowded about halfway through.
