Another belfry, another UNESCO World Heritage site. This 91m belfry served as a bell tower, a fortified watchtower and the place where the documents evidencing the municipal privileges were kept.

Belfry has three floors and you can go up with elevator from the first floor.Top of it has a very beautiful view of Ghent.On the second floor there was a TV show which explains how the bells are made.

The view from the top is amazing, but be warned that it’s extremely claustrophobic up there! Take a deep breath and calm those nerves.

Try to be early on the tower. On top it's very small, so you have to wait when it's crowded.

The façade is adorned with the ‘Mammelokker’ which depicts the legend of Cimon who was condemned to starve to death. He was saved by his daughter who fed him daily from her breast.

De torenspits is vaak vernieuwd geweest. Oorspronkelijk was de spits van hout. In 1911 werd de neogotische gietijzeren spits van 1851 vervangen door de huidge stenen spits.
