Formerly a transportation water way, today Canal Saint Martin is a nice strech in Paris to hang out and to relax. Next to sitting in numeros cafes along the water, on sunny days people have pic-nics
Perfect all year round for leisurely strolling allong its quais, enjoying the atmosphere, picnics, shops, ... The artery of a relaxed but vibrant part of Paris.
All in all it is beautiful and filmographically charged obviously... But... With all the traffic passing by (except on Sundays) it's not that cosy of a place to picnic... Just sayin'...
This is the Dolores Park of Paris in that on a warm afternoon or evening, it seems like all of Paris is picnicking and drinking on the banks of the canal.
Long de 4,5 km, dont plus de 2 km en souterrain, le canal Saint-Martin relie le bassin de la Villette à la Seine. Inauguré en 1825, il comporte 9 écluses et 2 ponts tournants.
