- Lachlan BakerJuly 27, 2017It's a great station, love the design,, but the fumes get to you and make you feel nauseous. Very clean and modern. But it is FREEZING here when I'm here (and at Flinders st too) so please suit up.
- For really good coffee while you wait; go to Kinfolk on Bourke, across the road (and support a cause at the same time) :)Upvoted Feb 25
- Varun SimonsAugust 16, 2012If your sensitive to diesel fumes (like me) don't plan on hanging around too long, unless you wait in the V-line transit lounge which has electric sliding glass doors and is relatively quietUpvoted 1 week ago
- It’s not near the good part of the city but the Skybus from the airport goes here, country trains and there’s a shopping centre and Etihad Stadium right next to and above the station
- Andy WatsonFebruary 26, 2012Don't forget to wear pants when here. It's surprisingly awkward, and for some reason passengers here don't appreciate it.
- The walk from Merritta Secure car park on Little Bourke is shorter than the walk from the car park at the train station. Just sayin'.
- Hungry Jack's is the bomb! Go try an Asian chicken wrap. Delicious! Also, the seats in the Prayer Room are so comfortable. Power point access too. Win!
- Cheris HohFebruary 13, 20163/4 of the lockers here don't work. You wont be able to find a place to hold your luggages especially big ones.
- Go next door to the car rental place, at least you'll get somewhere because VLine isn't going anywhere
- Handy to have your iPhone with music, movies or books available while you wait for your train or even on your journey.
- There's a prayer room. There you go, thought only airports had those :)
- Remember to validate your metcard and if travelling with Myki remember to touch on and touch off
- Careful with the monitors on the platform, as the staff always switch them back and forth to see what train is next.
- Keep an eye on the monitors. Train routes change often - the train you thought you were taking will change with no notice, especially if en route to Flinders St.
- Easiest way to get to the airport is to take a red Sky Bus from Southern Cross station. $23 return and runs 24/7!!!
- Yohan Gabriel LiutamaDecember 4, 2016Actually a great place to snap some photos for tourists like us
- David CrispJuly 28, 2011All the good bookshops have closed so make sure you get a book before going to the station or your options are thin
- Jason DownesMarch 15, 2012Are you an Environmental Professional? We've got the best jobs in the Australian Environmental Industry!
www.ecorecruitment.com.au/jobs - If the line at the main V/Line ticket office is ridiculously long, try the one near the bus terminal
- STUART MURDOCH1 week agoA station that is vibrant and lively any time of the day or night. When it’s open that is.
- Andrew HealanSeptember 21, 2015if you are a dumb tourist and walk through the wrong gate the security is polite and will let you walk back through to get to your train
- Muhamad Ikram Mustafa KamalDecember 18, 2018Go try Kebab & Coffee down there, it's really great & simple
- Lennard ChanNovember 22, 2010The SkyBus leaves every 10 minutes from here to Melbourne Airport for just A$17.45 on a single trip and a 20-minute ride away.
- Cindy FarranDecember 14, 2010Half a block up at 585 little collins st on right is cute cafe with awesome coffee called elevenses inside postal building :)
- Kym HAugust 19, 2014Great way to go to Harbourtown shopping precinct, South Wharf DFO & Etihad Stadium.
- More retailers opening up at station, more business but more crowd on station.
- We all have days when life gets tough, we just have to take a deep breath & remember there is always someone else who is worse off than us
- If you ever get lost on a train network, this is the place to go....Southern Cross= Central Station for all trains in Melbourne
- Belle Beth CooperDecember 3, 2010Use the public toilets downstairs, they are almost always less crowded than those in the shopping centre!
- How to get people to stand back from the train doors to let you out: have a bike with you.
- When catching Vline upgrade to first class, its only $3 - $6 more for more room! Worth every penny over a 7 hour trip!
- Take a gas mask… The architecturally designed ventilation does not work... I thought they fixed that
- Luke MMarch 1, 2011When leaving Etihad/Dome: walk to far left metro entry. Go to Flinders St end of platforms for more space & a seat on the train. Always seems to run more Glen Waverley trains than is necessary.
- Praveen VijayanJanuary 15, 2015Transfer terminal for v-line trains, interstate buses and airport shuttles.
- Get to the train 10 minutes early and you're guaranteed a decent seat.
- Jenna DaviesApril 23, 2012Can be very frustrating! But I suppose you get a good view.of all the construction that is being done....?!
- I'm a Queensland expat and have only seen it in current form/ name... But I still call it Spencer Street Station at times :)
