You pay the fare on the boat (a worker will come to you), and you pay only one way - mainland-to-island. Also, if you are driving, be sure to watch the crewman carefully for directions!

Buy a frequent rider card to save money on the fares. Also watch out for passenger only service happening right now for a few weeks in the summer.

2013 dry dock for the Whatcom Chief is Sept 4-25. More at www.whatcomchief.org

On weekends they run the ferry more than once an hour. ~20 car limit.
