隅田川べりの小高い丘（待乳山）にあり、この丘は595年（推古天皇3年）9月に出現して龍が守護したと伝えられ、浅草寺の山号（金龍山）の由来となったと伝えられる。待乳山は、かつては周囲が見渡せる山であり、江戸時代には文人墨客がこの地を訪れている。例年1月に行われる「大根まつり」でも知られる。待乳は、真土とも書き、この辺り一帯は泥海だったが、ここだけが真の土であったことを由来とする説がある。

[毘沙門天]毘沙門天は古代インドのバイシュラバナのことです。常に仏の道場を守り、説法を良く聞いたといういわれから「多聞天」とも呼ばれています。身体には黄色の甲冑をつけ、左手に宝塔、右手に鉾または宝棒を持ち、憤怒の形相で邪気を踏みつけにしている姿が普通です。

欲油祈祷3500円とリーズナブルで、聖天さまの優しさが伝わってきます。さくらレールで駐車場から本殿まで上がれますが、寺務所・売店は途中下車してください。
