    特急「はるか」「びわこエクスプレス」、新快速停車駅。京阪電鉄京阪石山駅が隣接。駅南側のバスロータリーからは大津市内各地へ3社の路線バスが発着し、平日ラッシュ時にひっきりなしにバスが出入りする光景は見応えあり。駅前にはマンションや居酒屋、飲食店、スーパーマーケットが立ち並ぶ。
