Gahlord DewaldJanuary 13, 2013Here's what you do: get an AirTran card before you go through the turnstile ($5 when I left this tip). Then _on the other side_ of of the turnstile get a regular metro card for use in the city.
There are two separate gates. One is airtrain only and one is both subway and airtrain. It will charge both fares. Be aware.

JohnAugust 9, 2012You most likely will need to use the restroom after taking the A train all the way from Manhattan to here. Bathrooms are clean and locked but asking red jacket attendant will give you access.

30-day passes are a big saver. $25 for 10 rides or $40 for unlimited.
Easiest way to jfk is the A train to Howard Beach skytrain. Never worry about traffic through the tunnels.

$5 dollars to ride the airtran into the airport from here is a ridiculous! Traveling witrh someone else? spend another 5, and catch a cab from here..faster and worth the money

Never take the subway to JFK - completely unreliable. Only take it leaving JFK.

If you have to take this your better of walking smh this is the worst money spent
