Fast trains to London normally depart from platform 3 but they all stop at Chelmsford which is a pain. Walk down the platform a few carriage lengths to avoid the crowds at the back of the train.

Fast trains to London normally come in on platform 2 which due to it's position tends to mean people crowd towards the back of the train. Save yourself some hassle by walking down the platform.
