Buy standing tickets for 3 or 4 euros. Rick Steves says to stand in line 80 mins before the show. Everyone knows that now, so you should stand 120 mins before the show to guarantee a ticket.

Standing tickets for 3-4 euros. Better to sit in line early (5-5:30 pm). Check in jackets/bags for free.Do research the shows: we felt Elektra could have been done better but the music was phenomenal.

World famous place. Dress up smartly and look the part eventhough you only have the cheap(er) ticket. 35eur ticket in halbmitte gallerie is good value, could see all of the stage clearly.

The 4 euro standing ticket queue begins about 1.5-2 hours before the show. Place is not reserved until you tie the scarves at the stands. So run to the stands once you get the tickets.

I recommend the tour through the opera - goes for about 45 minutes - thus doable. It's quite interesting to see the backstage area which is three times as large as the opera guest area...

Despite getting there an hour early, people were there before and reserved leaning space with a scarf. I would suggest doing that otherwise it's a slightly uncomfortable couple of hours.

You can obtain student tickets from 10-14€ for any unsold seat. So when you go for taking a standing ticket, ask first the worker there if there are student tickets available for that performance. ;)
