If you're gonna travel regularly on the Nanjing to Shanghai express train, I recommend getting one of these Quickpasses. Charge it up and avoid the ticket queues, reserved seating carriage 6, rows 1-4

Leave just enough time to catch your train but not too much so that you're stay around waiting. It doesn't feel clean nor good for your health to loiter.

The ticket office is an absolute fuck show. About 300m from the entrance, it has its own security check, & the workers aren’t helpful, even WITH speaking Mandarin. Pick up your tickets somewhere else.

Since the creation of South and Hongqiao station, this one has essentially been left to its own devices. Everything about it, including the people; feels like you’ve stepped back in time 20 years.

You’re supposed to use your ID to exit, I don’t know why, but if you go over to the disabled door, the guy will let you out without waiting in the giant line for the ID reader.

Kinda dumpy in 2024, and that intercom announcing the train departures is just pure noise pollution. Convenient to get to and from Jing’an district however.

Modern-traditional architecture, central, well-equipped but crowded. Connected by metro, but navigation and peak times are challenging.

If you commute, or take the G train often, ask about the 中铁银通卡. You can simply scan it to get on the G trains without buying a ticket, with some restrictions.

Avoid the guys offering to provide rides. Just go outside and grab a cab or Didi. Way more reasonable price.

Travelers should be sure to bring extra yuan. Travelers have reported that a lot of the ATMs in the station are out of order. I ran into the same problem myself in late June.

Ticket booth for foreign (no national ID) people is about 200m from the station. Better have your proper ID (i.e. Passport), or else you can't buy a ticket.
