There are two Pumpkin cafes on the station, between platforms 1 and 3, and another between platforms 4 and 5 which is usually quieter. Early in the morning the one between 1 and 3 opens earlier.
A nice station but the cafescost way too much. Go out if the station by the trams and there is a little tesco far better for food and only 2 mins for the station
Buy your ticket before you step on the train to :1. Avoid a fine2. Get discounted price tickets3. Be able to use your Railcard.4. Not to be charged for the maximum priced ticket.
Tickets (like those purchased on Trainline.com) can be collected from the "Buy here" counters despite not having a massive "Collect here" sign (where they *fail* to be collected).
The staff here are great, really friendly and willing to help. Even changed my ticket free of charge because I missed a connection due to delays, no problem at all :)
Use the side entrance as its less busy and has better access to platforms. Hopkinson is also a good place to get a drink and network with us arty types- look out for me working there :)
I recommend the little tea shop over the road called theArtOrganisation.co.uk. council owned, so not exactly slick compared to Starbucks...but Way friendlier! A lovely pot of jasmine tea!
There are coffee shops on a number of the platforms & they are always quieter than the coffee cart place at the main entrance. If you're catching a train go through the barriers for your coffee fix.
Instead of wrestling with the car park ticket machine - give yourself 5 minutes extra, go up to the ticket office and simply buy your car park ticket there. Really useful for 24hr+ tickets during week
