- Jon GoldmannApril 27, 2018Get the special (“burnt”) shoyu, they burn the pork fat and add to the broth for a blackish color and smoky flavor (also comes in burnt miso). Unlike anything I’ve had before and absolutely delicious!
- Kevin SkobacDecember 30, 2014Yes we ordered the burnt miso ramen like everyone else. It was good (and fun to see them cook while you wait in line) but I enjoyed the spots at Ramen Street in Tokyo Station more.
- Naeem IshaqMay 28, 2016Unfortunately, all of the ramen is pork based so I couldn't try it but my wife liked it a lot. Very beautiful decor and reasonable prices.
- Yohan Gabriel LiutamaNovember 28, 2017As you arrive, write your name and how many pax the table for on the paper in front of the door. Try the burnt-miso ramen. The gravy can be a little heavy, though. Love it.
- Andrea BiasiJune 20, 2015The go to place for ramen and soba in Kyoto. Be prepared to wait in line. Make sure you sit at the bar if you want to see the miso burning!
- There is not really good ramen shop around downtown Shijo area. Gogyo is very reliable and the most popular ramen shop in Shijo area. You already found here? Perfect! Have a good ramen experience!
- LisaJune 27, 2015Wouldn't say the burnt miso ramen is my favorite ramen but it's worth trying as it tastes different from all the ramens I've tried. Put your name down then walk around Nishiki market while waiting
- Jenny UngApril 6, 2014Burnt Soy Ramen is so good if you don't care for miso. The 10 veggie salad is also amazing - the dressing is delicious. The cucumbers were also tasty and the pickles too.
- Jeanette MukaiApril 5, 2015The burnt miso ramen is incredible and unlike anything I've ever tried. Get the gyoza, too! Also a tip: the beer stein is gigantic, so only order that if you're thirsty...
- StaceyJanuary 11, 2016The burnt miso ramen is very flavorful. I enjoyed it, but it gets a little bitter at the end. Beware sometimes they charge a cover: 300 yen when you sit down for a small and not very tasty appetizer.
- Alessandro MingioneApril 12, 2015The burnt ramen is good, definitely not a must tho. If you are in Kyoto you may want to try assari and kotteri styles over this. For a place that serves ramen the ambience is strangely fancy.
- Thomas KnüwerOctober 30, 2018Modern ramen restaurant with outstanding soups. The one with burned soja was one of the best I ever had.
- eifehNovember 11, 2015Burnt miso ramen is good and worth trying if you want to try something new, but I've definitely had better ramen. Price is okay. Gyoza is okay. Opens at 11:30am and gets pretty busy shortly after.
- Matthew CaldecuttMay 7, 2016Roomy and popular with locals and tourists alike, there's an English-language menu and you can't go wrong with any of the recommendations here.
- Alex HurleyJanuary 5, 2016Burnt miso ramen. Sit downstairs as upstairs is removed from the cooking action. Flames and kitchen flair add to the experience. Gyoza were also great.
- Casey LauDecember 1, 2014A tad bit overrated! The 2 main events: the burnt shoyu and burnt miso; the miso is much better with a stronger taste but not the ramen I'd stand in line for again. Try it once for a unique taste.
- Neil RososApril 2, 2014Burnt Miso broth is thick with a hint of sweetness. So damn good. For similar context, I would choose this over Ippudo's Akamaru Modern any day.
- Kaitlyn ChantryFebruary 10, 2014If you sit at the counter, you can watch them prep the ramen! Oh... And the burnt ramen options are delicious!!
- Yat Fai OoiMarch 4, 2014Was a little apprehensive at first with the 'burnt' soup options, but they turned out great. Go for the extra 3 pieces of char siu
- Julien LimOctober 28, 2013Quite difficult to find if you don't know the streets well, ramen was a little overrated to me, ordered the burnt ramen; rather mild in taste. But ambience was pretty good. 7.5/10 overall.
- Jason FongNovember 23, 2015Burnt miso ramen is definitely flavoursome, but gets a bit too much by the time you're halfway through. Be aware there's a ¥300 bar cover charge. To eat ramen WTF.
- Glenn TereNovember 26, 2017Like the burnt miso better than the shoyu. Chawanmushi is really good too
- Kara MuratoreJanuary 16, 2016Gyoza were amazing, as was the ramen. Although there was a surprisingly large account of char.
- Fabio De DonnoJuly 20, 2015Had the burnt Miso and liked it quite a bit. The broth is quite heavy and oily but good. Was not too impressed with the gyosa I have had better one from a supermarket...
- MorwensApril 23, 2018Super ramne shop that heats up pork lard to create the blackness in the ramen.Yummilious!
- KellyMay 20, 2018Beware they charge a "cover charge" of ¥400 yen per person (pre tax) for just being at the restaurant, regardless of spend amount. No one told us, and it was only displayed in small font on the menu.
- Simone MirukuDecember 11, 2015The burnt miso ramen is so good it is hard to put into words. It's a must.
- Alex JOctober 21, 2015Tried the burnt miso ramen. It was good and interesting, but near the end it felt like too much burnt taste.
- Alan HoMarch 29, 2013If you know basic japanese, look at the Japanese menu. English menu has far fewer items.
