- Slynky CatSeptember 30, 2015Absolutely amazing sushi, well worth the wait. Try the Scallop, spicy tuna, freshwater eel & salmon sushis. Really good soy & the wasabi packs a punch. Great service & atmosphere. No wifi, no signal.Upvoted 4 days ago
- Emily WilsonFebruary 27, 2017Omakase at the bar is excellent, but you would fare well ordering off the menu as well. Reservations are for tables dining a la carte only. Lively vibe for a sushi spot, fun for a Friday night dinner.
- Danny ShinAugust 8, 2014Lunch special Sashimi is very good here! Very fresh! One suggestion is that you should ask the waiter for sushi rice. They will charge you one extra dollar for it but its worth it! Try this place!
- Simple FoodieNovember 30, 2018Sashimi Platter, Shrimp Tempura- some of the best fried food in the area, fresh fresh fresh worth the wait if there is a line.
- Rajat DhamejaAugust 1, 2020I have never been to Sushi Gen but I've heard all great things. Looking forward to visiting. My favorite include salmon nigiri, spicy tuna rolls, wakame and cucumber salad and tempura ofcourse
- Trust the chefs at the bar. The toro and Japanese snapper are particularly awesome, but everything here is great. Prices aren't transparent and omakase can get expensive (but the fish is worth it!).
- EaterNovember 6, 2013An iconic L.A. sushi restaurant, this small spot in Little Tokyo is constantly filled to the brim, with a unbelievable lunch sashimi special packing the crowds in.
- Nick CampbellAugust 6, 2014Get here early. Sit at the bar or you're wasting what's great about this place. Tell the itamae to choose for you and just keep the delicious sashimi coming. Prepare to pay handsomely.
- DailyCandyFebruary 14, 2014Though slightly roomier than neighboring Little Tokyo spots, Sushi Gen still gets packed to the gills thanks to an impressive lineup of specialty fish (sayori halfbeak, kanpachi, monkfish liver).
- Jinnie LApril 7, 2015uni with quail egg was very fresh n yummy♡ we had unagi don, sashimi deluxe, n awesome toro!!!! really really nice sushi place in LA!
- Terry LynchAugust 15, 2014For experienced sushi lovers only! The bar serves the best sushi I've ever eaten but no menus or suggestions, food is made fresh as you request it. Was expensive but an experience
- Cordelia MartinezJanuary 29, 2020Clam Miso Soup, Cucumber and Seaweed Salad, any sushi or sashimi is good, especially the Unagi
- Some of the best sushi in town. Have an incredible lunch special for Sashimi $15. Comes with rice salad and tofu.
- Benito QuevedoDecember 12, 2017Yes! Favorite sushi in LA. Huge portions great prices. Sushi or sashimi platter is a great way to go.
- RainbeauDecember 27, 2018Is an amazing spot, but the line there can be insane because they have a deal of a lunch special, otherwise it's $$$.
- Sarah KrznarichOctober 20, 2015Best sushi I've ever had. Sit at the bar and ask the experts preparing the food what to eat. They'll never steer you wrong.
- Fernando DiazJune 15, 2011Put your name on the list, and go have a drink at Bar C while you wait. Let the host know, and they'll come over and let you know when your table is ready.
- Melody HanJune 24, 2017If you omakase, don't go as a solo diner as each piece comes as a pair rather than a single piece.
- Los AngelesOctober 29, 2013Head over there for lunch to avoid the crowds and knock a couple dollars off your bill - things are always cheaper before the sun goes down.
- Steph SloanJuly 2, 2015Sit at the bar and talk to your sushi chefs! Amaebi, uni, and snapper all day 👌🏼
- Gloria ChinApril 18, 2013come for the lunch special!! also try the uni w/ quail egg and fried head shrimp, grilled mirugai,
- Best Sushi in LA. Order a spicy tuna hand roll! Aside from that you can get any of your favorite sushi items. Everything is amazingly fresh and high quality!
- David JargowskyMarch 17, 2010If you're not there for the incredible lunch special (table service only), wait for a seat at the bar. Get the Japanese Snapper, Albacore, and whatever else the chef recommends.
- Katherine M.August 25, 2014My friend Daphne says, "Best sushi ever located in Little Tokyo. Expect a really long wait."
- Joe C.March 19, 2013If you here for the lunch special, be here early. I arrived about 45 min. to an hour before the store opened and there was 15 people already in line. At 11:30 am, there were 40 people waiting to eat.
- Get the omakase. Get the hot sake. One of the best places I've been to and I love sushi.
- Roze BraunsteinDecember 28, 2011If you can sit at the bar in front of Masa, it's a whole different/the best experience.
- PRO-KedsApril 20, 2011This place is worth everything second they make you wait. Hands down, the best sushi spot in LA
- Tony LaiNovember 17, 2014They've raised the price of their sashimi lunch special, but it's still pretty good.
- Gabriela ArreolaOctober 26, 2010albacore, japanese snapper, unagi, and uni were ahhhhhmazing. By far the best sushi i've ever had!
