If arriving from another country, you can't buy a regular Oystercard here. Ticket office only sells visitor Oyster cards which cost more. Buy a ticket and purchase an Oyster card at your destination.

Southern, Thameslink & Gatwick Expresstrains can take you into different areas of London. Stations include, Victoria, Clapham Jct, London Bridge, St Pancras. Plus Luton Airport and south to Brighton
Don't be shy to ask for help. Different companies run different trains at different prices/times to the same places. If you don't want to stand in line, ask an attendant and use the ticket machines!
You can use contactless payment cards and Oyster cards for trains to London; both for the Gatwick Express and the cheaper Southern or Thameslinktrains.
If you do save money by not getting the Gatwick Express, spare a thought for everyday people and not block the doors or put your suitcase on a seat and stopping people from. Sitting down..
Extremely confusing to navigate if it's your first time visit. Try to download a map of the train diagram before you arrive for less stress and more ease.
Buy your tickets in advance using the trainline app and collect them from the two dedicated collection machines to the right of the horrible queue. Much quicker
Get Zone 1 to 6 travelcard (first capital connect only) into London to London bridge, Farringdon, Kings Cross £13.50 off peak. £10 weekends! Then you can travel all day till 04:30 following day!!!
Don't be misguided by the Gatwick Express signs. You can still buy tickets to National Rail trains, they are £4 cheaper and only take 1-6 minutes longer. Mind the queues!
Thank goodness for the helpful staff at the ticket machines, the options are a wee bit confusing... But the staff will tell you what the best ticket is...!
Lifts down to the platform are all the way back in the terminal building and new ticket barriers just create queues, trainstaff need to go on a customer service course!
Beware of timetable when booking flights - a 10 minute late arrival, we missed the last Express of the night, caught a slower train to London & no District line home from Victoria. Unlucky I know

If you do a regular commute through here your London ticket (monthly or annual) lest you travel on the gatwick express for free. You'll still be late though
DO NOT get your tickets on the train, only buy them on the train if your are going by Express, Southern Trains and First trains require you to buy them at the ticket desk / machine
