A beautiful park in the heart of a busy city! It was great to escape from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo's fast-paced lifestyle to be here at Rikugien Garden! Will visit again during autumn!

11/22 - 12/9, after sunset to 9pm there are illuminated trees, and a fantastic atmosphere. After, take Metro Namboku from Komagome to Iidabashi for small streets in Kagurazaka, famous for restaurants.

Beautiful garden, if you're lucky to be there when the cherry blossom is in full bloom it's pretty magical. Aim for sunset if you can.

Beautiful Japanese garden. Seems touristy but do enjoy a cup of matcha and Japanese dessert by the pond. The garden is also filled with maple trees, best time to visit would be in autumn.

A 400¥ donation gets you in and it's beautiful to walk through and view the trees all lit up this time of year (cherry blossoms). Because of crowds, no tripods, but that doesn't stop the discrete. ;)

Two minutes from JR Komagome station, this historic garden is especially beautiful in Autumn time with its colourful foliage. From late November, the trees are lit-up at night. YEN 300 entrance fee.

徳川五代将軍綱吉の信任厚き川越藩主柳沢吉保が元禄15年に築造した回遊式庭園。個人的には滝見茶屋と水分石の辺りが風情と趣があって気に入りました。有料の庭園公園ということもあり混雑もなくとても落ち着いた雰囲気です。入園料は¥300。Suica等の交通系ICでの支払いも可能です。

川越藩主・柳沢吉保が拝領した加賀藩下屋敷の跡地に築いた大名庭園。池の水は千川上水から引き、園内の起伏は全て新たに造成というあたり、530 石から大名・御側御用人に上った吉保の権勢が伺える。幕末まで柳沢家 (川越 → 甲府 → 大和郡山) の下屋敷で、維新後は岩崎弥太郎が購入して再整備。都内に大名庭園は数多くあれど、間違いなく三本の指に入るレベルの高さ。やはりハイライトは藤代峠からの眺めかな。

和歌の素景色の印として建てられてるこれらの石碑だけど、この石碑たちは創建当時に柳沢吉保の監修で建てられたものらしい。ということは綱吉や桂昌院が来訪した時もこれらの石碑を軸に庭内が案内された可能性もある。なんだ、現代ボランティアガイドさんに案内されてるのとあんまり変わらんじゃん笑。

年間パス1200円で通い放題。一般入園は300円なので、4回以上行くなら年パスがお得。枝垂れ桜の時期だけでも、4回は行っちゃうので愛用しています。秋は11月から紅葉の🍁ライトアップイベントあり。付近のお店も良い感じ。

【国特別名勝】昭和十三年に岩崎弥太郎氏(三菱創設者)から東京市に寄付されました。庭園は中之島を有する大泉水を樹林が取り囲み、紀州（現在の和歌山県）和歌の浦の景勝や和歌に詠まれた名勝の景観が八十八境として映し出されています。

写真は藤代峠からつつじ茶屋。見て分かる通り2017年冬に木や笹が伐採され見通しが良くなった。かなり雰囲気変わったので最近行ってない方もぜひ行ってみてください。これで緑深くなった時にどんな雰囲気になるか。楽しみ。

芝離宮（相州大久保家上屋敷跡）に比べると、インテリ臭が鼻につくが完成度は超高い大名庭園。メインの池泉よりもツツジの茶屋付近の山間の渓谷あたりが素敵です。

ここはメインの大池泉よりもつつじ茶屋や滝見茶屋あたりの‘郊外’や山里も模したあたりの方が風情がありますよ。

今年は丁度昨日今日あたりが見頃。週末だと散りはじめかも。いいお天気で人出が多く、午後二時くらいに行ったところかなり並んでいました。入園料を払うまでに15分くらい待ちました。
