- christian svanes koldingOctober 14, 2017the tavern is a go-to spot for last minute dining. lively and absolutely unpretentious izakaya with hearty comfort food, reasonable prices and a fun slightly manic vibe. crab dumplings worth trying.
- Bin YangMarch 14, 2016Giant okonomiyaki (takes about 30min to cook) and solid yakitori. Don't shy away from the beef tongue and chicken skin/gizzards. Everything off the specials menu is worth ordering.
- Russell HirschornJanuary 22, 2017Very authentic Tokyo yokocho. Great sake list, yakitori is really good (scallop bacon, duck scallion) and cheap, s&p pork belly, sashimi is like butter
- The Corcoran GroupMarch 23, 2012Great place to go before (or after) a night of drinking. The chicken balls are amazing, as is the pork belly special. Food comes out when ready, not at the same time.
- Summer IzkovichSeptember 2, 2014Def get the Chicken Skin, Gizzards, and the fried Squid legs? Just any Yakitori things and when you are done make sure you go into Angel's Share it's right in the not-so-"secret door"
- Alex HayworthFebruary 2, 2018Super tasty. Good for getting a number of small-ish bites. Could also double as the set of a low-budget action movie fight scene *presses bad guy’s face to yakitori grill*
- Shaliga SuksomsongJuly 8, 2012Love this place. One of my favorite Japanese restaurants in NYC. If you like cerviche and a raw pallet, I always get the raw octopus in wasabi takowasa. Yakitori is pretty good and the clam!
- Marie PorrasOctober 30, 2016Food is good, cute deco and nice atmosphere. Perfect for a quick bite after a cocktail at Angel's share.
- Tamas NeltzFebruary 7, 2015skewers are the perfect drunk food, but the best bet is still the octopus salad
- Order the Okonomiyaki (Japanese Pancake) It's full orf veggies and meat, and has bonito flakes on the top. It takes them about 1/2 an hour to make it so notify them at once when you sit down.
- Simran JaisingDecember 10, 2014Japanese Izakaya is transformative. One of my fave late night digs. Order the specials and age dashi tofu, you can't go wrong.
- Jason HaasMarch 27, 2013Everything's good. Be bold; try something new. Bring friends and order pitchers! Or sip on fancy cocktails with your date at Angel Share next door.
- Let me just say "fried octopus leg", "spicy raw crab", and "chicken skin on the skewers" will make your night. And don't forget to get a pitcher of Sapporo.
- Esther JungAugust 13, 2015The fried squid legs with mayo are the best! Great place to spend a Friday with friends - drink and eat all night long
- The Hamashio (broiled salt clams) are HUGE and juicy and so amazingly mouth watering. Everything is delicious, chicken heart, sashimi bowl, all of the specials...mm!
- EMarch 18, 2015Best izakaya japanese food in nyc. Late night or just for dinner and drinks! Good for groups. Gets very crowded so beware!
- J BJanuary 13, 2018The meat skewers are amazing, as is the tofu soup and then matcha ice cream. Noodle in omelette is a little random!
- Catherine DuDecember 27, 2018The skewers are absolutely amazing! The price is reasonable and the portion is pretty big! The service is also very good!
- Jon DJanuary 11, 2019The cheese okonomiyaki tastes like a McDonald’s cheeseburger from your childhood, but in the best possible way.
- Go to dishes incl, but DEF not limited to: take yakitori combo, spicy tuna in a bowl, takowasa (raw salted octopus with wasabi), agedashi tofu, takoyaki, gesokara, miso cod
- KeiKa AJanuary 2, 2012I've never been to Japan, but I imagined it to be just like this place. I got the okonomiyaki, yakisoba, & the mochi ice-cream for dessert. Portions were humungous & prices were reasonable. LOVED IT!
- Johan SanmartinMarch 15, 2013The omusoba, fried noodle omelette, is delicious but a feat to finish. I suggest sharing with someone. Then again sharing is caring and food tastes that much better
- PaulFebruary 6, 2015Good quality seafood and extremely wow service. Sashimi didn't disappoint. The waiters have spot on recommendations to suit the pickiest taste.
- Food RepublicJune 18, 2012You basically can't lose with this izakaya-style menu, but we're going to beat a dead horse (for tenderizing purposes) and echo the fact that you must order the fried squid legs.
- Eat anything and everything. If you're Korean, get the spicy raw crab and be in Heaven.
- I love their hamashio - succulent, hot, salty clams. For the adventurous, try the chicken gizzard skewers!
- GESOKARA is just fantastic fried squid leg. Awesome with beer.
- RCFebruary 7, 2015Great sake selection. Sashimi bowl was delicious with a good amount of sea urchin. Fantastic yakitori.
- Chiara MartiniJanuary 11, 2016Amazing food and nice place!! If you are in the mood there's a speakeasy inside
- Lori LuoSeptember 8, 2014Not a bad place to grab a drink and small bites, like the yakitori or rice bowls, especially when waiting for a seat at Angel's Share.
- Fried squid legs, country stew, oysters & mushrooms in butter sauce, spicy tuna bowl, beef tongue, okinomyaki! #nom
- Amazing bi bim bap and be sure to check out the "speakeasy" by the staircase.
- Joe MontesFebruary 13, 2017Authentic, delicious Japanese food that's inexpensive! The yakiudon was great!
- Dylan AcresJune 1, 2012Really enjoyed the huge bowl of ramen I had when I visited. Very authentic and a great place to squeeze into with good friends.
- JohannaAugust 31, 2014Deep fried squid legs, daikon salad, una don when they have it, and ume onigiri!
- Jess ButlerOctober 3, 2015Foursquare tips are on point here. Spicy tuna bowl and beef tongue skewers!
- Simone JungDecember 14, 2015I always come here for fried squid legs with kewpie mayo and their big onigiri balls with salty roe.
- Thomas IgemeFebruary 21, 2013Delicious food! Avoid the table right by the stairs during the winter - the draught makes its' way up!
- Edwin A.January 21, 2010Get a carafe of sake. Order one of the yakitori combos, any of the soups/stews with miso, and the fried oysters. The chawanmushi is ok too.
- Ashley VelazquezSeptember 19, 2015Super cute set up! Get the skewered chicken skins -- absolutely delish!
- Kirk McMurrayJuly 19, 2012Make sure to grab a delicious cocktail prepared by some of the best bartenders in NYC next door, at the not-so-secret-anymore Angel's Share!
- Get dinner at Village Yokocho, then booze it up at Angel Share. Get the chicken heart. Unless you're a prude.
- Tried a few dishes, and they were all delicious, but their ice creams are also particularly good.
- Bala AmirthaganesanSeptember 19, 2015Pit stop if angels share is full. The food is great! But this is a busy busy restaurant!
- Ben BellAugust 8, 2011If you're there with a few friends, split a 1.8L bottle of Kurosawa Kimoto sake. Great accompaniment for the cuisine!
- Melody HanAugust 17, 2011A step up from the St. Marks chaos of Yakitori Taisho and Oh Taisho - darker, more grown up, better food. Crispy fried squid legs, ikura don, sake.
- The udon noodle soup is as flavorful as food can be without overpowering the eater by the end.
- Minsun Mini KimNovember 3, 2011I craved takoyaki and it wa diappointing! I like crispy takoyaki with lots of octopus inside but it was soggy and doghy
