- Jim PenfoldMarch 7, 2018From the Hawaiian music coming from speakers, to ATMs that give lessons in Hawaiian to bathroom signs with a local flair. A great place to start your vacation.Upvoted Mar 16
- Brendan NeeJanuary 31, 2015La Marianas Tiki bar is a 6 minute cab ride from the airport. A great waterfront layover or first stop drinking spot. Best tiki dive bar in Hawaii. (HNL airport is in the background.)Upvoted 5 days ago
- I enjoyed buying three pineapples for $30. They are fresh. They are tasty. It is just hard to swallow the price per bite. For some reason, a Hawaiin pineapple has more nostalgia than a costco one.Upvoted Mar 4
- Richard RevillaAugust 14, 2015Airport is a bit outdated and can use a remodel. Open air corridors are a nice touch to allow fresh pacific air through. Either way you just landed in Paradise.Upvoted 1 day ago
- Pretty dirty restrooms in the baggage claim area - don't forget your own tissues/sanitary wipes. Ungepflegter Sanitäranlagen im Bereich der Gepäckausgabe, eigene Papier-/Desinfektionstücher helfen.
- CarmenMarch 6, 2015Arrive early to visit the airline lounge garden but don't try to feed the fish and don't throw pennies into the pond. There's a funny sign to this extentUpvoted 3 weeks ago
- Hang out at the bar on the 2nd floor, "Atrium Bar" before saying "A Hui Hou" to your loved ones! お別れ前にバーで一杯。軽食もあります!
- Julie 🐯🌺💜🎶😊May 26, 2013Suggestions- Take: 1) Thin socks to keep feet clean @ security check in, 2) Lite-wt leak-free reusable plastic bottle; fill after check in, 3) Front carry-type pouch for cell/CCs/$$/boarding pass/tips
- Jan CartanoJanuary 9, 2019It gets really humid here so make sure to dress lightly before landing here. There isn’t much shops or things to do when arriving. Other than that, the USO is really nice and great for passing time!
- Scott HegyesDecember 15, 2018Though the airport is kind of dumpy, it’s hard to dislike an airport with open air hallways, check-in and baggage claim. The clean air and beauty of a tropical paradise make this airport a winner!
- If you're lucky enough to have Ambassador status with AA you can hang in the Ambassadors Club and drink (and yes, even alcohol) and eat for free.
- Mike Padilla 🚒December 22, 201481° and clear. I love the natural air conditioning of the buildings here at the airport no closed in walls and windows.
- AD NysSeptember 4, 2011Ask the airport staff which vending machines are broken before using them — they know and are happy to advise. Maui onion chips ($1.25) are best deal going, if you can find a working machine.
- Need to kill time on a layover? Consider checking out the Living Art Marine Center less than 5 minutes from the terminals. Beautiful marine life on display and perfect for the family.
- Leonardo De La RochaNovember 9, 2011Tourists should avoid buying gifts which are generally marked up 200%. For great take homes, hit the swap meet at Aloha Stadium on the weekend.
- Evey LeeNovember 17, 2014Buy your souvenirs in Waikiki! The shops at the airport are expensive. (Duh!) but they do have free samples at the Honolulu Cookie Factory...
- Amanda P.November 11, 2012the airport has the same "hang loose" mentality as the rest ofvthe island .... get there a little early so you have plenty of time to stand around and wait to be checked in and go through security :)
- EV are free, but dropping off someone within 30 mins is only $1, that's $2 cheaper than the post office and level 5j always has spots
- Michael TchouAugust 30, 2014Kona Brewing Co. located next to the food court featuring a variety of their craft beers. Also a small Kona bar near gate 8.
- Mostly an open air airport so plan your attire accordingly for the weather. Weather is usually perfect here but just in case it's not be ready.
- Andrew BC 翁 ÔNGOctober 21, 2014Aloha ! Welcome you all to the beautiful island of Hawaii. You'll be amazed by the awesome scenic views as well as the origin culture overhere
- What is not to love about Hawaii. Very warm and friendly service from all employees, security and TSA. Prepare to do some walking. Get the TSA precheck- well worth it.
- Debanjana ChatterjeeJanuary 19, 2019There is an open space and a Japanese garden inside the airport past the security!! Oh Oahu why do you have to make it so hard to leave!! Love love love itUpvoted Mar 17
- Derek FromsonJune 30, 2013Check in online before arriving at the airport to avoid an unnecessary line (in addition to the agricultural screening for departure for all checked baggage) compared to e-check ins for luggage only.
- Arjan TimmermansAugust 9, 2014With its outdoor terminal layout, this airport puts you right in the sun and ready for vacation. It's all smiles here!
- Security lines can be long due to the organic materials checks, so give yourself extra time.
- Ulysses .May 21, 2017Small cramped airport, with dated carpeting. Security lines can snake outside even on weekdays, but they do move fairly quickly and the TSA is slightly more happy to greet you, given Hawaii's climate
- Daniel ErwinDecember 12, 2019Always a pleasure to arrive because you don’t interact with the staff. Upon departure though, Aloha goes out the door and you’re introduced to the employees struggle to do work. Painful experience.
- Fergus NolanDecember 4, 2016Where you have the experience of meeting some of the most amazing patriotic people in the world at an airport, it's a fantastic airport
- Bob SavageSeptember 29, 2014Aloha! We've arrived in Oahu looking forward to a week of drinking, beaches, drinking, ocean swims, cruises & lots of fun! First time it's just the two of us In a long, long time! Cocktails!
- Derek FromsonJune 30, 2013Checking in an odd-sized piece of luggage, like a car seat (or two)? You'll get to be a baggage handler for the day: be prepared to DIY...bag it up and lug it over to the specially designated area.
- If you're on 1st flight of morning (~5am) at Interisland, arrive at terminal by 345. At 4am on the dot the crowds descend and the lines back up HUGE because TSA isn't open until 430am.
- Britney TeperMarch 6, 2015Flying out around 6 or 7pm and later is amazing. The airport will be empty. AND Security is actually polite, like the people mainly are on the island.
- PCL ConstructionJanuary 8, 2013The Hawaiian Airlines Ticket Lobby project consisted of the installation of six check-in "islands". The islands feature unique iridescent light shelves and panels shaped like canoe sails. Read more
- kwakseongjinAugust 10, 2022surprisingly many Starbucks coffee shops are in the airside. Honolulu cookies and Mauna Loa are more expensive than those of ABC stores in Waikiki though they are duty-free.
- If you're picking up friends or ohana stop by the lei stands on your way to the arrivals building. Great fresh selection and good prices.
- SuprachibbyFebruary 2, 2015The airport is fairly older but has a beautiful garden located on one of the lower levels. I like the whole indoor/outdoor aspect it is really welcoming.
- DoubleDeuceJanuary 21, 2019A mixture of inside and outside here. It's nothing fancy but efficient enough and plenty of places to grab a snack or buy up some take-home local treats.
- There's a nice garden area outside of the internal and terminal as you approach gates 49-53. Nice place to kill some time before a flight.
- Patrick DeanDecember 29, 2013We were in terminal 34 and it was FREEZING!!!!! That whole side was sub-tropic temperatures!!! Bring a jacket if you don't like 55-60 degree temps inside! Everyone had coats on or waited outside.
- If you are lucky and get in the right line at security you don't have to take off your shoes, take out your laptop/liquids or anything! it was sweet!!
