Definitely, one of the best designed airports at time it was built. There is only about 50 meters between getting out of the taxi, and boarding the airplane. Happy to see it before the shut down
You can ride from here on buses x9 or 109 to zoogarten and change to s-bahn there to any place in Berlin. Take the ticket for 120 minutes. It fits to buses and u/s-bahn and cost 2.60 euro.
It's all good if you depart from Terminal A. Short distances and fast boarding. Terminal C and D are a bit chaotic and improvised. A bit of a joke really for a city like Berlin.
I’ve been here many times, this nice airport is in decay, I wish they restored it to its former glory! I love Berlin though on of my favorite cities in Europe!
Beware of short connections on Air Berlin between different terminals (e.g. A and C). You need to get out, get to the other terminal and pass security again. One advice in such situation: RUN! :)
Visit the Berlin Wall your way- with your Smartphone! The Berlin Wall Memorial offers three different tours on their mobile website from 30 to 120 minutes– for the “hurried”, “curious” and “experts”. Read more
You'll find no adequate waiting area after you went through security check. You should drink your coffee and wander through the stores beforehand to spend some time.
I’ve come to love my little airport. A gates each have their own security and serve the best routes. Terminal D is always overbooked with huge security lines. Very close to city center. Okay WiFi.
Welcome to Berlin. In case you decide to stay, explore @SoundCloud's career opportunities. We'd love to meet you http://soundcloud.com/jobs #talent #berlin
From entrance to gate in 10 minutes because every gate has their own security. If you need to buy something and you‘re at terminal A or B do it before security
It is very empty, almost no places for food, the security is strong and the boarding areas are divided very strictly so after passing the security you cannot sit with people from other flights
All shops, bars and restaurants are before security checks, which makes bringing any drinks onto a plane, near impossible. Each small departure lounge does have a countertop coffee unit
Take a Taxi to the airport. Fly out of Terminal A. Go from parking to gate in < 5 min. One security line per gate, no forced shopping. Be as late as you want — almost impossible to miss a flight here.
Security is odd; individual security lines for each flight that lead directly to the gate. Make sure you see an airline representative to answer "security questions" (even if you've pre-checked in).
When flying airberlin on weekend day morning take the "2hours in advance" seriously. Checkin queues can be huuuuuuuge. When flying only with hand luggage - everything can go smoothly
A rare "gem" in Berlin. Arrive late (unless you are flying with low cost airlines, then be there in time), don't expect anything enjoy the fast check in and have a safe flight.
There's a genius to Tegel's architecture: curbside dropoff is ~30m from where you actually board the plane. This is great except when they are short on ground crew so yr flight is an hour late anyway.
Global blue (Vat) is all the way at the end of the terminal past A15, inside Service Center. Come here before checking in your luggage! Otherwise they may not give you the Vat back.
Cheapest way to get to and from the airport to the city is the TXL bus. You need cash to buy the ticket - the ticket machines do not take foreign credit or debit cards.
If you find yourself stuck in the small hall with gates C60+ you should take the bypass to gates C38-60 there are more shops there and refreshments are slightly cheaper.
Why all the negative comments?!? TXL is the only airport I know (besides LCY) where you can arrive 20-30min before take-off and still get on board. Why spend any more time in an airport than one must?
The best way to get wifi access for free in Tegel Airport is to stay close of the AirBerlin stands (You should create and account in the authentication page for the wifi)
The airport offers automatic check in of luggages for easy jet flights. By far the most quickest airport to get in and get out. The sandwiches in the C 60-85 section are lip smacking.
Arrive early! Bag drop opens 90mins before flights but sometimes the line is already backed up. The staff here don’t usually call people forward in the line if late so, you’ll miss the flight.
Buy everything before. Almost no shopping and eating possibilities and really crowded. No place to sit. The good thing is that is small so you don't need much time for transfer
In Dubai, they built the world's tallest building in six years. Here they don't manage to open an airport within 13 years. This airport is a shame for Berlin and Germany!
TXL is still the best airport in the world when it comes to leaving the taxi and get to the flight. When checked-in online this can just take 2 minutes. Priceless!
Being left in the middle of the field to take a bus to the terminal is never a good start, and Germans looking for reasons to put you in place. Definitely a well organized "function over form" airport
You can't go through security until 90 mns before your flight. If you're early and need a quiet place to work, try the restaurant on the second floor ( there is a lift from the main hall).
The employee in the Visit Berlin kiosk tricked us in to thinking it was the official airport information (we specifically asked her twice) and sold us a card for all transports that was overpriced!
The TXL bus takes you right into the center and comes every 6 minutes during the day. If you plan on taking more public transport, get a 4-ride ticket.
45-50 min outside the city by car, public transportation is available. Shopping and dining area is nice, terminals are a bit confusing (if you are not used to). Could be very crowded at the rush hour.
Terminal C got very crowded by the time my flight departed (on a Sunday afternoon). Also the TXL bus got more than full for the last stations nearing the airport.
find out which gate your flight is departing from on a huge billboard while driving into TXL, ordered by departure time. Each gate has its own custom (2 windows) and there is always a long line.
