Good station with lots of travel links. Book tickets in advance though to save queuing!
Getting to London on the first cheaper train (0917)? Park in the season ticket holder's only car park-it's open to all from 0900, spaces at the far end and only about £6 for the day.
Park at the Anvil car park - can work out way cheaper and the machines actually work ;-)
David AleuJuly 25, 2011Best station ever, very well lit, nice coffee place, waiting room smells nice, is warm and opens late even on Sundays!
Try to arrive at least 5 minutes before your train as the stairs are narrow and arriving passengers tend to be uncaring.- The best coffee and pastries are ay Cafe Destino on platform 4 - worth the detour if you are London bound.
- There is now only one cash machine (in the booking hall) but it is free.
- 'If you arrive from Waterloo, observe the Reading train on platform 5. Some masochist has decided that they should always arrive at the same time, meaning passengers must run to switch platforms.'
Alistair ColemanOctober 12, 2012Good place to catch a train in Basingstoke. Probably THE best place to catch a train there- When buying tickets from machines, be sure it is what you want before confirming. They change the content & order of the screen regularly
The narrow platforms here make this stop a real thrill in rush hour!

Under no circumstances should you ever step on the 'live' rail. It can get very slippery when wet and you could hurt yourself.
Platform 1 is useless, can't even get a coffee! You have to go under to the middle platforms if you want one. Not ideal if you haven't got a long change over time!
By your great coffee from the happy people at station entrance or platform 4.
Buy a ticket b4 u get on a train and make shore it valid to come to Basingstoke and not hook ect and oyster card aren't ARE NOT valid here u will end up paying more to get out ha ha

Platform 3 - quickest way out of Basingstoke And back to London
Farrah TapOctober 23, 2010Going to Reading? Make sure you get to the station about 30 minutes past the hour. You then get 3 trains to choose from in half an hour instead of waiting half an hour if the '07 train is cancelled.
- Platform 4 cafe has better coffee and pastries than platform 3.

To the idiot who pulled the emergency handle to open the doors: don't, you missing your stop is not an emergency- It has the worlds worst car park with the slowest ticket machine. Why you have to use a credit card to buy a £7 car park ticket defeats me that when the machines actually work!!
