- Scott ByerlyFebruary 5, 2017Have a long wait? Checkout the mezzanine upstairs above the McDonalds. Tons of seating and at least a few outlets available. A lot more quiet than the main room too.
- Alexa Jane BrooksApril 29, 2015A big atrium ceiling makes it feel grander than you'd expect. Starbucks right there. Good seating. Easy view of screens and tracks. Great natural lighting.Upvoted Feb 8
- Quick and painless exit to the street. Stick right when coming off the train platform and avoid entering the actual station. You’ll be right on Summer Street.Upvoted Feb 9
- South station is a very clean place to wait for a train there is one bar a few fast food spots & a Starbucks (a franchise location) for the Starbucks experience go to the store across the street M-F
- Need a plug outlet? There are 2 at each pay phone closest to the windows! Nice place to pull up a book, and there's some space to put your lunch while you waitUpvoted Feb 11
- Tauitas is a great place to grab a drink before your train/bus. Good drinks, music and prices. They also have the train board so you get departure time updates.
- Karl WarrenSeptember 3, 2014The Top end of the #Amtrak line is a great transportation hub. Commuter rail, Subway, ferry, buses and transportation to Logan Airport. Good service and must try Au bon pain in station. :-)
- The main terminal in Boston. Make sure to download the myticket and Amtrak apps, it makes life easier and faster!
- Beautifully restored exceptional functioning; transit busses, coach busses, MBTA trains, MBTA red & silver subway lines, taxis and immediate to Financial District, China Town and Boston Waterfront.
- Dave KaneMarch 19If you need to head south or west of the city, and your preferred mode of travel is above ground railroad, this is a great place to consider. Trains arrive and depart from 13 different tracks.
- Good pizza, generic food court and a way outta Boston. What's not to love?
- If seating is unavailable on the 1st-floor (with the arrival/departure board), try the 2nd-floor seating situated west (above the eateries). It has a nice view facing Atlantic Avenue.
- j hbOctober 25, 2012There's actually a single outlet in the gate area, right next to the entrance, hidden by the set of wooden chairs. (It's the set on your left as you walk in.)
- Matt BarberSeptember 19, 2016Patriots Train tickets from the big T sign, $20. Arrive early, secure your ticket and enjoy a beer at the tavern.
- Timothy TannerJanuary 1, 2015I loved traveling through South Station each day. The sites were amazing. People, People everywhere. :-) Great food spots and quick access to the subway.
- Have 15 min and $5? Run to a Chinatown bakery before your train/bus and buy cheap, delicious buns for your trip.
- deestivAugust 12, 2012If you're coming to the station by T, give yourself enough time to get to the bus terminal - its about a 10min walk. Be early, esp if heading to NYC because lines will be long
- 1. A chipotle should of been added here, instead of a grilled cheese place. #what? 2. Pizzeria regina will always be my favorite, and its cheaper than the location in town.
- HNovember 26, 2018If you need luggage storage, go behind track 10,11,12. Amtrak runs a storage room. 10 dollar a piece if you have an amtrak ticket, or 20 bucks if you don't.
- AmtrakConnectStation is the Wifi, Food Court is by Track #1, to access the Bus Station entrance from track #1. trains depart from tracks 1-13.
- Ahmad AlfilimbanyMay 17, 2016Convenient way to get to Stamford or NYC. It's important to line up early if you want a good seat.
- Sara YApril 20, 2014Lookout for the line starting to form 20-30 minutes before train departure to NYC even if the track hasn't been announced yet. Best way to get a good seat.
- Jenn Richard - KilgallonAugust 1, 2013If you're heading out for some fun there are tons of bars, shopping outlets, and interesting places to visit! You can walk to Downtown Crossing!
- Busy place but has a great selection of shops to kill time. Remember to keep moving through and not stop in the middle of the platform or train
- Melissa DeToraMarch 11, 2014If you need to charge your phone, there are outlets on mezzanine level, you have to look under some tables to find them. There's also one on the right side of McDonald's.
- Team CocoNovember 10, 2011"South Station is New England's 2nd largest transportation center after Logan Airport, and before my Uncle Jerry's station wagon service." - Conan O'Brien
- WARNING at commuter hours (5-7) if you aren't 'walking the escalators' then stay standing to the right so those rushing to make their connection can fly by! And this includes your luggage!!
- Michelle ChangOctober 11, 2014It's huge and you can buy the ticket in the train by cash or through the app so easily !
- Buy your commuter rail pass/tickets on the smartphone app. It's cheaper and more convenient as they don't accept cash on the trains.
- If you think the birds are out to get you don't worry it's just the bird mitigation devices (loud speakers that play the sounds of hawks and birds in distress) they installed to keep pigeons away...
- Jenny MackintoshJuly 13, 2012Get a CharlieCard from the information booth -- saves you $$ per T ride versus a paper Charlie Ticket, and the MBTA doesn't have them readily available elsewhere lately.
- Rob SteereDecember 21, 2011Get checked baggage service on Amtrak even if your train doesn't have it! Drop your bags off by 9pm the night before. They'll go out on the overnight train, and be waiting at your destination.
- Jeff HortonMarch 15, 2015First time seeing this station, right in the heart of the city, easy to get to all Boston destinations
- This is the end of the line for the Framingham/ Worcester line inbound so if you're going outbound (out of the city) choose this station instead of Back Bay if you want a seat.
- Inaccessible. Nowhere to sit. Providing nowhere to sit while you wait for a train to arrive makes it so difficult for anyone who requires (or even prefers) a seat to travel through boston.
- South Station opened in 1899 at a cost of $3.6 million. A major renovation completed in 1989. Serves more than a million intercity passengers as well as over 18 million commuter rail passengers.
- Karl WarrenSeptember 27, 2014Great transportation hub. Amtrak, Subway, shuttle to Airport and ferry service including Provincetown. Taxi and bus as well
- If you're travelling to NYC or on a holiday weekend, considering buy priority tickets on the bus. For an extra $10 or so, you can guarantee a spot on a certain bus, and not have to wait in long lines!
- i am though here regularly on bolt bus from NYC. the last FIVE TIMES my bus has been "randomly selected" for search by narc dogs upon arrival. just saying.
- The overhead racks are too small to hold anything more than a backpack. If you're carrying large luggage, travel at a slow time so you can put your bag on a three person seat.
- Jeffrey GilesSeptember 27, 2014Not very informative. You kinda have to know what you're doing. All the trains leave from downstairs and tou wait in the lounge to be called by a red cap. Tip $1 per bag.
- Cosi for salads add wraps, Pizzeria Reginas for pizza. Dunkin Donuts for coffee.
- Ruth ArnoldSeptember 30, 2012Lots of annoying scavengers will harass you for cigarettes outside, unavoidable along the whole block even at odd hours. nice food court for killing time during daytime hours. Bathrooms are decent.
- If looking for decent food, stop by Cosi for breakfast or lunch/dinner sandwich, coffee, fruit cup and more. Quick, but definitely better than fast-food quality.
- John LJuly 16, 2012Just remember, if you wanted to get somewhere on time, you wouldn't be taking the bus. So relax, you'll get there eventually.
- Stand as close to the board as possible so you can make a dash for your train without getting stuck in the crowd.
- Amtrak trains have got 120v power outlets as well as food (for sale) on board, so bring your computer and watch a movie.
