Walk toward F1,F2, F3, gates. This area has lots of plugs to charge. Close by the Rotunda has good seating and plenty of choices for eating or relax by a herb garden or stretch in a yoga room.
Great selection of restaurants and shopping. Had a long layover here - the only negative was the difficulty in figuring out how their letter/number system for their gates works...I still don’t know.
IF YOU ARE EVER STUCK HERE FOR AN EXTENDED BUT KINDA SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME TAKE THE BLUE LINE AND GET OFF AT LOGAN SQUARE AND EXPLORE!!!! not too far and super cool brunch placescafés stores etc!
Smell the herbs! Find the aeroponic urban garden in Concourse G. Hidden on the 2nd floor with leafy greens & comfy chairs. A nice place to recharge and forget you're stuck in an airport.
A wise road warrior once told me "You're to young to realize that chilling at home and sitting on a plane are the same thing.". Words to live by when crossing the concourse.
If you're a US citizen arriving on a flight from abroad, there are fancy new machines that make going through customs easier. Scan you're passport, tick a few boxes, get a receipt -- you're done!
While Terminal 3 (American) has some great food options (Frontera Grill), this is a big airport which means lots of flights on the runway. Took about 30 minutes of taxiing before take off last time.
Go to the urban garden outside of terminal G and upstairs. Quiet area with comfy seating (and a yoga studio!). Great lighting since there's a garden up there. There's at least one outlet too.
For those traveling with small children and have a long layover time between flights, there is a children's play area between Terminal 1 & 2. Great way to tire them out for the long flight ahead!
It’s an airport that reimagines itself. The planners listen to passengers. The new expansion plan will make ORD one of the most technologically advanced airports in the world, and stunning by design.
Some call it hell on Earth. I call it character building. You've probably had a few flight delays/cancellations, but don't let your despair devour you. You can make it if your will to live is strong.
The area just past the kids' playground between terminals 2 and 3 is the best spot for charging laptops, phones, and getting work done. Very quiet and peaceful, away from the crowds.
"When checking a bag, I always make sure to pack a CONAN intern - that way, if my bags get lost, and they're still alive, they can call and tell me where they are." - Conan O'Brien
O'Hare tries to do a good job, but let's face it: it's one of the busiest airports in the world and susceptible to bad weather. Do yourself a favor and add an insurance hour to your layover.
It's a big ol' airport, but you can get pretty much anywhere from here. And with all the traffic on the roads, you'll be in New York before your ride gets back to the Loop :-)
Definitely busy but very efficient to get around. It's also easy to get to downtown Chicago right from the airport via CTA, the Blue Line. The Blue line is the Subway of Chicago Transit Authority.
Welcome to Chicago! The CTA has a metro ride into the city & takes about 45 minutes. WiFi & cell signal is spotty so best to make calls when outside of baggage claim. Safe travels!
Getting on the free Wi-Fi is impossible. Concourse and the "free ORD" wifi never are able to connect. Boingo tricks you into downloading their app to the sign up $9.99 after teasing you. Tip: use data
A very large hub airport. Make sure you leave plenty of time to get to where you're going, especially if you have a connecting flight. Not bad for a layover. They have plenty to eat or places to shop.
Support this charity www.thextramile.org by donating your FF miles to those in need of visiting terminally ill loved ones. Also find us on FB Facebook.com/thextramileorg and on twitter @thextramileorg
Find BurritoBeach in the food court in K/Terminal 3 for the most BOMB airportbreakfast burrito. Chorizo + egg = YUM. (Don't be sidetracked by the prettier TortasFrontera nearby!)
Avoid booking connecting flights through this airport. It’s location makes it prone to weather delays. It’s also one of the busiest US airports. Combine the two and it’s ripe for major delays.
For a quiet break from the havoc Bring your snack n laptops to the second floor of terminal 2&3 and check out the aeroponic vegetablegarden. There are comfy chairs and a few plugins.
If you’re looking for a quiet place to sleep (stuck overnight), the couches behind the Connect to Chicago cafe are ideal. No arm rests, cushions, quiet. Closes at 9pm, opens at 7am.
Check the yoga room in T3. Next to the indoor urban garden, the room is free for travelers, has a bamboo floor, floor-to-ceiling mirrors, exercise mats, and an area to store your carry-on luggage Read more
This is not technically public, so don’t you dare get sassy if they say no. But if you ask nicely at the USO in Terminal 3 Rotunda, they might let you look at their challenge coin collection.
TortasFrontera, in Terminals 1 and 3, is an outpost of Chicago’s best Mexican restaurant, Frontera Grill. Order a fresh-shaken margarita and one of chef Rick Bayless’s griddle-baked tortas. Read more
The airport has made lots of improvements in recent years to selections in food and shopping. While still laid out a little strange, it's interior still holds up.
Seasonal travelers (May-Sep) and an inefficient TSA program have affected O'Hare's checkpoint speed. If you don't have PreCheck, plan on arriving to the airport 2-2.5 hrs before your flight.
This is one of the more modernized airports of similar size and nature in the US. If your flight is delayed which is a common thing, settle down with Garrett popcorn Chicago mix!
This airport has really come a long way in the last couple years. Wolfgang Puck, Jamba Juice (with the secret menu), Frontera, and of course the popcorn mix are unique and very satisfying!
OHare continues to make improvements making this one of the nicer airports in the country. Check out WickerParkSushi or Summer House between Terminal 1 & 2 if you have the time.
Home of the blues brothers! For out of towners: Do yourself a favor and get a Chicago dog with everything on it (don't ask for ketchup)! Also the 's' is silent when you pronounce Illinois
