- Noah WeissFebruary 16, 2016Creative and eclectic small plate menu -- with reasonably sized plates -- that has a vibe and wine menu perfect for a date. Great vibe. The poached tuna, beef tartar, and gem lettuce salad all 👌.
- Emily WilsonSeptember 25, 2016Unique wines, warm bread and olive oil, romaine lettuces with pistachios, potato darphin, uni, and jalapeño, wagyu streak for two, chocolate hazelnut tart. 👌
- The wine selection is one of my favorites in the whole city – lots of interesting natural and biodynamic wines from around the world. The food is incredible. This is a special place.
- Alyssa B.July 30, 2021The mille feuille was bigger than I thought- it’s for sharing. The shaved salt in the caramel made it special
- AmateurConciergeMarch 16, 2016whoa! Hype is real. Didn't love contra but the small plates here are all great and it's pretty damn cheap. Favs: pork rilette, tuna, beef carpaccio, squid....honestly everything was strong
- ChristinaSeptember 8, 2016We had the crispy grain salad, little gem lettuce w/ pistachio, corn & fennel salad, bass crudo, beef tartare, fried squid, chocolate hazelnut tart, & panna cotta...& all were phenomenal. Mind blown.
- Bin YangAugust 29, 2015Squid is great - the mint basil is a great touch, chicken for two is massive. Watch out for the shishito peppers, they'll either be sweet and smoky or a burning legion in your mouth.
- Sofia FigueroaApril 6, 2018Steak tartar, pork milanese and crispy grains were delicious. Small plates, small restaurant - go w/ 1 other person and share everything. Radish dish is worth skipping.
- Ranu RajkarnikarNovember 13, 2015Lively vibe and delicious scallop crudo. Definitely get the bread. Felt it was a bit hyped but still a good meal. Tartare and spicy tuna toast were pretty good as well.
- Start with the beef tartare, persimmon & stracciatella, and the bread & oil. Wagyu steak for 2 is cooked sous-vide, then perfectly seared off. Can't really go wrong here.
- EaterDecember 14, 2015An affordable share-plates analogue to a spendier tasting menu venue. Imagine beef tartare with pimenton oil, smoked cheddar, horseradish, and buckwheat groats. You dig?
- Condé Nast TravelerOctober 26, 2016“I love the fine choice of great minimal-intervention wines, the staff knowledge and passion, the focus and attention to detail, and the exceptional cooking skills of the owners.” - Kylie Kwong Read more
- Josephine SonJuly 6, 2015Lovely wine bar from the folks at Contra. Amazing wine list and great small eats. My favs were scallop crudo, fried squid, shrimp, rhubarb granita!
- Caroline ChungJune 22, 2015Everything was great! Contra's sister restaurant delivers on quality and fresh dishes with seasonal ingredients
- Alessandro TorzaJune 24, 2021They’re completely in control of their menu. The wagyu tartare is for the ages.
- Goodstuff HallyJuly 4, 2015Amazing place, their small plates food is great, natural wine is fantastic, staff is super friendly and still if you can go there only for their bread and olive oil. Soooo good.
- Jesse LaneFebruary 2, 2018Beef tartar and fried squid were standout dishes (and an absolute must). Everything from décor to the food was so well thought out.
- Nicole FormicaMay 31, 2016Prime wine selection. Pair it up with their amazing beef tartar, bread and lettuces. Finally, end with a hazelnut tart!
- Liz BiancoFebruary 2, 2018Savor every bite of the beef tartar and the fried squid (the fried lemon with the squid was good enough to make you cry). Cool ambiance, excellent staff, and spectacular food.
- IrmaZandl ZandlSlantOctober 22, 2015Tuna tartare and bread and olive oil are both great. Did not like the fried squid!! Not a great vibe / too many people squished together.
- CharlottesSeptember 26, 2016Totally lived up to the Conde Naste traveler hype, especially the corn, squid and tuna toast. Absolutely delish, and wine recommendations were winners too. Loved it!
- Tyler SimmonsFebruary 19, 2016Such a cool little spot. The food is unique and inventive and tastes great. Best part is the price tag per dish is low so you can try a lot.
- Vivian KongMarch 11, 2018For a fancy night try the tartare, fried squid, potato darphin, and of course pair it with some fine wine.
- GQ MagazineMay 31, 2016Witness a pancake of beef tartare tangled with Cheddar cheese and chestnuts, and a “potato Darphin” with uni and jalapeño, a latke in the grips of a hallucination. Read more
- S KJuly 17, 2018Amazing organic wines and great selection of out of the ordinary wines. The food is very tasty, small portions tapas style. Love it!!
- Noura S.July 11, 2018The food is so fresh.. farm to table. The steak is 👌 you have to have both desserts ( hazelnut chocolate and the raspberry cream)
- Rory ParnessMarch 13, 2016The menu changes all the time but if on, poached tuna was crazy and vanilla panna cotta was decadent (especially if the weather is warm)
- J LMarch 22, 2019Sourdough, biscuits, all the veggie dishes, and that lobster...the wine list is an interesting mix.
- ginny hOctober 11, 2015Beef tartar, radish and butter, shishito peppers, bread and olive oil, and scallops! Delicious! Definitely worth the wait
- Beth S.June 4, 2019Between the grain salad, soft-shell crab, pork milanese, and hazelnut tart, nothing blew us away.
- Teddy LuJuly 13, 2015beef tartar, fried squid, mackeral, and duck were all AMAZING! very cool, laid back, clean atmosphere. loved it.
- F. BastardNovember 29, 2016Distinctive, modern, fairly-priced food. Well-informed service. Unusual wines by the glass. Cramped, kind of drab and a bit uncomfortable. Not quite the full package for me but I'll probably return!

- Emilie DishonghSeptember 14, 2015The wine list is full of delicious things to discover, and wow that steak tartare is good!
- Rachel W.September 17, 2015Drink weird wine and order the bread. (FWIW I'm totally against paying for bread, but this is definitely worth it)
